GRAFLOCK UNIVERSAL 4x5 ADAPTER - Body Only

Use this adapter to harness the power of your smartphone to capture digital stills and video with the look and feel of 4x5 photography with most Graflock compatible vintage 4x5 cameras. Please note that this generic Graflock version DOES NOT act as a viewfinder for shooting 4x5 film in the same way the camera-specific adapters do. 

This generic version of the ObscuraFlex adapter is designed to fit any 4x5 camera that's equipped with standard Graflock style "slide-lock" mounting mechanism as patented by Graflex in 1949. 

I don't have the resources to confirm the compatibility of every 4x5 camera that claims to be "Graflock Compatible" but many manufacturers introduced compatible Slide-Lock mechanisms. Some compatible models are: Toyo 45A, Wista 45N, Intrepid 4x5, Linhof Technica, Graflex Speed Graphic, Super Speed, Crown Graphic, Etc.

It is also possible that a 4x5 camera or conversion that claims to be "Graflock Compatible" may have standard slide-locks, please check carefully. Examples include Cambo SC 4x5 "Revolving Graflock Back", some "Graflock" Reducing Backs. See photos for examples. 

Any camera that is proven compatible with Graflock "Slide-Lock" style accessories such as the Polaroid 545 Land FIlm Holder Back, LomoGraflock Instax Back, FotoDiox Sticher Backs, Horseman 6x12 120 roll back, etc should be able to accept this adapter too.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE ORDERING

To make this niche project possible, all items are MADE TO ORDER using on-demand manufacturing technology. Once your order is placed it cannot be canceled and cannot be returned under any circumstances.

MODIFICATION REQUIRED

NONE: If your Linhof camera body is in good condition and has a standard swing style pop-up hood (as pictured) then it should fit snuggly and securely without any modification to your camera. If you have any doubt, email us BEFORE YOU ORDER. 

GROUND GLASS

The adapter CAN be used with your existing ground glass, but if you intend to use the adapter to shoot digital stills or video with your 4x5 you may wish to replace your existing ground glass with one of our proprietary ObscuraFlex™ focusing screens for a more even, less vignetted result. PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS

Similar to shooting fine grain low ASA film, this adapter requires plenty of light to produce the best quality images. A wide open high quality 4x5 lens should function well in good light. Depending on the capabilities of specific smartphone models, good results may also be possible with high ISO settings and/or extended exposure times in less ideal lighting scenarios.

  • Low light photography is not recommended.
  • Flash sync photography is not currently possible.

PROTOTYPE CHANGES

The ObscuraFlex™ system is still in active development and is constantly being tweaked and improved. The version you receive will be the latest version available at the time of your order and may not be visually identical to the version pictured here.

DIY USE

If you are planning to use the adapter to create your own phone cradle or other attachment use the SHOP menu for individual parts.
